For purposes of confidentiality , let’s just call him
Dr Harrison.
Basic Needs Kenya through their youth
fellowship program supported the initiation of treatment, hospital visitations,
company, the mutual encouragement and now the discharge of Dr Harrison.
Dr Harrison is a very learned and widely
travelled man. The first thing that will strike you about him, is the fact that
he is very knowledgeable on a wide range of topics such as global development,
politics, culture, youth issues and various career paths that the youths can
navigate their way through.
So what’s his story?
Dr Harrison has/had been doing very well for himself over the years.
At one point before the shutting down of his clinic, he was a medical doctor as well as a senior lecturer.
Then he got schizophrenia and his life got turned around. This is a mental illness about which he says, "I found myself hospitalized and being treated for schizophrenia,a condition that I find difficult to understand and comprehend."
As you can imagine Harrison has made a full recovery and is due
for discharge quite soon, to begin his new life, and to live positively with
schizophrenia, but he only has got you and me to make that become a reality.
We as the BNKE youths, being his friend, having
been moved by his plight and also in line with this year’s Mental Health Theme,
“Living With Schizophrenia”, felt that it would be really good of us (with your
support) to help Dr Harrison settle back into a normal life after he is
discharged and to give him a new beginning.
As such, we make this PASSIONATE APPEAL, to help us (in any way
possible) come up with the basic necessities for him to make him lead a normal
and comfortable life again.
