Basic Needs: Empowering Communities!

BasicNeeds implements a community based and people-oriented Model which emphasizes the importance of enabling people with mental illness and/or epilepsy to re-integrate successfully into their families and communities, to re-gain their own self-respect and dignity by being an economic asset to their families. In the Livelihoods model we facilitate opportunities for affected individuals (users and carers) to gain or regain the ability to work, earn and contribute to family and community. The emphasis on the livelihoods is to ensure that when drugs are not available at the health facilities the users and carers can still afford to buy them from the nearest chemist. Such was the opportunity accorded to users and carers in Maili 46 in Kajiado County as illustrated  by photos below; Tie and Dye Training   Participants holing their fabric ready to start tying them in to different patterns
